The Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) on Tuesday came out to condemn the raping of a female census enumerator in Maseno Saturday.
The enumerator was gang-raped by unknown men, who also stole her tools. Two suspects have since been arrested.
According to FIDA chairperson, Josephine Mong’are, the incidence proved that women and girls are still under threat even after measures have been put in place to curb female related violence.
“FIDA-Kenya demands a speedy investigation into the matter so as to bring the perpetrators to book. Such acts of violence against women and girls should not go unpunished,” said FIDA in a statement as quoted by Citizen Digital.
FIDA came out to state that it will support the victim and make sure that such incidence doesn't go unpunished.
More so, it noted that violence against women and girls will be punishable with harsh punishment to make sure it ends.
The body argued the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to tighten up security during the National Census period to safeguard census enumerators.
“We also call upon members of the public to remain vigilant, and ensure the safety of these public officers as they carry out the national duty,” said Mong’are as quoted by Citizen Digital.
