Eldoret tycoon Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki will be one of the top contenders in 2022 gubernatorial elections.
He was also in the 2017 race where he lost narrowly to the incumbent Jackson Mandago.
In the forthcoming general elections, Buzeki will have to solicit for support from Mandago and his team as well as the Jubilee party fraternity in order to win.
Mandago has got a significant number of followers in the county. Majority of them are drawn from Nandi, a Kalenjin subtribe which is thought to be the dominant population residing in Uasin Gishu.
The current governor's 2017 victory was attributed to the overwhelming support offered to him by the Nandi community.
Furthermore, minority tribes affiliated to the National Super Alliance (NASA) supported Mandago's candidature in 2017. These group of potential voters is also crucial for Buzeki if he is to win.
The ruling party, Jubilee, is the most popular party in Kenya and in Uasin Gishu. The deputy party leader, who doubles as the country's DP, William Ruto hails from the region.
Almost all the leaders from the county were elected on Jubilee party tickets in 2017 general elections. Only a few MCA's and two MPs Janet Jepkemboi Sitienei (Turbo) and William Kamuren Chepkut (Ainabkoi) did not fly the party's flag.
Most of the leaders are also DP Ruto's allies.
Ruto has declared his interest to run for the presidency in 2022 on a Jubilee ticket.
Every vote counts and Buzeki would need the support of Jubilee aspirants besides, those of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) from the presidential to ward level in order to win easily.
