A woman was on Monday arraigned in court on the allegations of stealing a gun from a security guard who works at the the official residence of Deputy President in Mombasa and then reselling the weapon.
Both Elsie Kazungu, the woman, and Joshua Oliech to whom she sold the gun to was charged with theft and were later on each released on a bond of a Sh200,000 bond by Chief Magistrate Edna Nyalotti.
Kazingu allegedly stole the Ceska pistol on December 19, 2019.
Reports from The Star indicate that the woman was a commercial sex worker who had been picked up by the security guard identified as Francis Kariuki who doubles up as a policeman at Central police station.
It is during the night while at Kariuki's room which is inside DP Ruto's residence that the woman committed the offense.
The Mombasa's Directorate of Criminal Investigations office (DCIO) nonetheless declined to inform the court on the whereabouts of the officer who lost the gun.
“We cannot tell you where he is because we are still conducting an investigation,” DCIO Anthony Murithi stated as quoted by The Standard.
Following the security breach at DP Ruto's Mombasa residence, the officers who had been attached at to guard the home were changed.
DP Ruto's Mombasa residence recently made headlines after allegations emerged that the DP has been locked out of the residence.
