Four months ago, Deputy President William Ruto promised the male national football team, Harambee Stars, Sh50 Million should they beat Ethiopia to qualify for the next African Cup of Nations.
Harambee stars delivered a win in an empathic style and attention shifted to what was promised.
To date, the promise has not been fulfilled with politics of whether DP Ruto made the promise as a government or as an individual.
This week the principal secretary for sports Kirimi Kaberia, when he appeared before the parliament sports committee come out categorically to state DP Ruto made the promise as an individual.
Renowned radio Sports presenter Tondo Kuria speaking in the show Banana Peddler said he was there when the promise was made and it was clear, DP Ruto made the promise on behalf of the government.
Mr Tondo statement clearly differs with the government stand through the PS.
Political commentator Dr Onyango Ochieng Jnr believes Ruto went to the match and made the promise as the deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.
Dr Onyango, in the same show, said the President needs to put his house in order to avoid such kind of games that doesn't help the nation.
The analyst believes the game played is purely political to bring down DP Ruto.
He opines the issue should have been discussed in-house by the government, instead of the PS coming out all of a sudden in the media to blame DP Ruto.
Dr Onyango Ochieng Jnr opines if the PS made the statement on behalf of the government under the directives from the office of the President, then it's a way to humiliate DP Ruto.
The analyst even compared the situation with how the former head of civil Francis Muthaura used to frustrate Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the coalition government.
The analyst added even if DP Ruto made the pledge by himself, the government should have come with the right response that does not publicly put DP Ruto on spot.
He asked the government to stop making the issue a William Ruto affair rather than a Deputy President affair.
