In an interview on Radio Citizen on Monday morning, the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna noted that the bloc will front a presidential candidate for the poll.

He noted that just like has been the case since its formation in 2005, where it has always been in the frontline in the presidential race, the same will be the case in the much-anticipated contest.

‘’Nataka kusema ya kwamba ODM itakuwa  na mgombezi wa urais mwaka wa 2002 vile tumekuwa tukifanya tangu chama kibuniwe (just like has been the case, we will front a presidential candidate in 2022),’’ said Sifuna.

This, however, comes at a time when the opposition chief Raila Odinga-led party has called for political calm, urging leaders to shun the 2022 debate and focus on developmental issues.

ODM is, however, yet to give a hint on its possible candidate, with Odinga who has represented it in the past 4 elections remaining mum on his 2022 ambitions.

Also expected in the race is Deputy President William Ruto who has openly declared his interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

His bid has been endorsed by his fellow Jubilee Party members.
