Political analyst Ambrose Weda has observed that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga could be on his way to the presidency, thanks to his new political tact.
Speaking on Wednesday, the lawyer observed that the former Premier has since stopped his fights against leaders from the Mt Kenya region, which could play to his advantage.
But he noted that it comes with casualties, the major one being Deputy President William Ruto whom he seems to have replaced in the heart of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This he based on Raila's 2018 truce with Uhuru, which seems to have thrown Ruto who was promised the Mt Kenya vote in 2022 off guard, and seems to have isolated him.
"Raila has changed tact, he is no longer fighting Kikuyus. He has already taken Uhuru from Ruto," he said on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday.
The former Sony Sugar board chair opined that Ruto's recent claims that he is ready to face off with Raila in 2022 are another of his tactics which he hopes will give him an upper hand.
The DP made similar remarks in Meru county on Sunday, expressing his readiness to face Raila, who had not made any such declarations, having chosen to remain silent on his plans.
Weda added that being well aware that Raila will ultimately vie, he wants to create a situation where he will tell Kenyans that Raila was only fooling them with regards to his remarks that he is not interested in politics for now, and has actually been secretly preparing himself.
"Ruto had learnt from Raila. The plan is to hit and hit him so that when he finally vies he (Ruto) can tell Kenyans "See, I knew he would vie". Either way, they will at meet polls," he added.
Weda was also part of the tribunal that recently acquitted Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang following allegations relating to his integrity and competence.
