Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot has reacted to the state of the Judiciary address that was delivered by the president of the Kenyan justice system David Maraga Monday morning.
In a tweet on Monday moments after the address, the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator expressed his apology to CJ David Maraga, saying that he had been wrong to criticise the judiciary.
The Kericho senator called on the chief justice to stand up to elements in government frustrating the judiciary.
He went on to say that history would be very sympathetic to David Maraga.
"CJ @dkmaraga . History will be very kind to you. Judicial independence MUST be respected. Stand up to the bullies.Over time, I have learnt to trust institutions more than individuals. I take back and duly apologize for any unfair criticism to the judiciary in the past, " the Kericho senator said.
The chief justice rattled a list of frustrations that he had been subjected to as the president of the judiciary.
He contended that the office of the chief justice was not being accorded the respect that it deserves, suggesting that there was a deliberate attempt to treat the judiciary with the contempt.
According to him, the courts were staring at a crisis due to the cuts in its budgetary allocations.
