The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership has said that it will not engage in politics following the demise of Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth.
The Raila-led political outfit is expected to field a candidate with the capability to defend the seat.
ODM has said that it will only name its candidate after the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi declares the seat vacant following the death of the lawmaker.
“The ODM family is still mourning the death of Hon. Ken Okoth. The writs to declare the seat vacant have not been issued by Speaker @SpeakerJBMuturi. Until that time, we shall not engage in politics of who shall succeed the late Okoth in ODM and Kibra Constituency,” tweeted ODM.
Ken Okoth has been eulogised as a great leader who was determined to change the lives of millions before his demise.
The handshake is expected to influence the race to succeed Ken after the speaker announces the seat vacant.
It remains unclear whether Jubilee Party under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta will field a candidate in the post when that time comes.
The by-election will also shape the politics of 2022 considering the rising temperatures because of the calls for a referendum.
