Police officers in Elgeyo Marakwet County have launched a manhunt for a suspect who escaped from custody with handcuffs and Occurrence Book (OB).

The suspect was being held at the Kimwarer patrol base in Keiyo South constituency before he went missing. 

Confirming the incident, Keiyo South sub-county police commander Charles Laboso said that the police have embarked on the search for the suspect. 

He also said the police are looking for two other suspects in connection with the escape. 

“Our officers could not take the suspect to Kaptagat police station where we have police cells and more officers because the roads in the area are impassable due to the ongoing rains,” said Laboso, as quoted by Standard.

The suspect was being held at the patrol base before he went missing leaving the officers with a hard task to search for him. 

The officers who were operating the base had left for a few minutes only to come back and find the suspect missing. 

The officers who were on duty are currently helping a contigent of other officers in the manhunt for the suspect.
