Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Sam Atandi has reaffirmed his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) ahead of the expected release of the BBI taskforce report.
The BBI is a joint formation of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, founded after their 2018 political ceasefire.
The MP now says that other Kenyans should rally behind the same, urging the Nyanza region, Raila's backyard, to demonstrate its support for the two leaders by backing it.
“We are going to begin the process of rolling out the BBI outcome. And therefore, our people, the people of Nyanza who support His Excellency Raila Amollo Odinga, we must begin to think of how we’re going to embrace and adopt the BBI program,” Atandi said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The vocal lawmaker further warned politicians against politicizing the matter and linking it to political competitions, amid complains and questions from Deputy President William Ruto.
He stressed on the need for all politicians to rally behind the push, terming it not the time to engage in political games in the name of scrutinizing and questioning the BBI report.
“I want to encourage leaders that this is not the moment for us to encourage political competition; this is also not the moment for us to begin to practice cheap village politics. Let us not undermine each other; let us work together and ensure that when this begins we are in one accord," the ODM MP noted
The DP and his team have repeatedly termed the BBI a plot to increase executive seats to house election losers, in reference to Raila.
Ruto's latest questioning of the initiative came on Friday, where he stated that it will be subjected to public scrutiny, warning those banking on it for political mileage.
