The passengers, who were coming to Kenya, reportedly exited the plane voluntarily after an announcement that its door could not close properly.

They say that they took the step after promises that they would be given an alternative plane.

According to Grace Wacuka, one of the affected passengers, they were also promised food and an Sh50,000 token but ended up waiting for 10 hours for the food.

Wacuka told K24 that the wait which began at 11 pm only ended when they boarded another plane at 9 am.

"We were told we would be given food but we went without any offer of food or water from 11 am till 9 pm, which is around the time we left,” she said as quoted K24.

Another passenger said that before leaving the plane, they had sat inside for about an hour and a half, and were supposed to be landing in Nairobi later on Wednesday.

"We were at JFK in New York and the flight was supposed to leave at 1pm. We sat in the flight for about one-and-a-half hours when we were told that 58 people were required to leave, at about 3pm, the last person left,” the passenger said.

The flight Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Mikosz is yet to respond to the claims.
