Professor Kivutha Kibwana is the Makueni Governor serving his second term in office.
Kibwana won his re-election on a Wiper party ticket on the August 8, 2017, election.
The governor has been voted as the best performing county chief in the country owing to his unique and people-centered development projects.
Pressure is now mounting on Kibwana to contest in the 2022 presidential election.
Kibwana has, however, denied having interest in contesting for the presidential seat in 2022.
Kibwana was born in Mwanyani, the then Nzaui District in Makueni County in 1954.
He schooled at Nzaui primary school before proceeding to Machakos Boys High school for his ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels between 1969 and 1973.
In 1976, Kibwana graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
In 1977, the politician graduated with a Masters Degree in Law from the University of London.
In 1984, the Makueni governor graduated with another Masters Degree in International Business from Harvard University.
In 1988, he graduated with another Masters Degree in International Human Rights from the Washington University.
In 2012, Kibwana graduated with a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from the Africa International University.
Before joining active politics in 2013, Kibwana worked as an advisor to former President Mwai Kibaki.
He also served as Environment Cabinet Minister between 2005 and 2007 in Kibaki’s government.
Kibwana is now backing Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid.
