According to Passaris, Wambui who rose from being Dagoretti Ward Councillor in the year 1963 to serve as Nairobi Mayor between 1970 to1976 was a mentor she looked up to when she decided to make her first debut for Nairobi city mayor position in 2007.

Speaking of the eminent woman who had also served as a Permanent Representative for Kenya to the United Nations between 1976 to 1986, Esther noted: "There were many before us that dared and that is why we are in that space today."

She further added that for her, "parliament is more special when you know you are seating amongst great women.

Wambui who died at the age of 89 in April 2017, was the first daughter of the founding PresidentJomo Kenyatta and the first female to enroll at Alliance  High School in the year 1948.

The Nairobi Women Representative also singled out that the first woman Mayor, Grace Onyango in post-independent Kenya (Kisumu, 1967) was also another political idol she looked up to in the then male-dominated field.

Onyango equally broke the belief of male dominance and was the first female MP in post-independent Kenya after she won the Kisumu Town seat against 10 male opponents in 1969.

Both Onyango and Wambui played a key role in redefining the gender relations by fighting tirelessly gender discrimination in post-independent Kenya.

Their pursuit for leadership positions in what was mainly a "no place for women," is a remarkable tale of the great struggle that epitomized dedication and boldness in creating space for women in Kenya's political arena.
