Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has dismissed reports that he has endorsed Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
This is after a local blog reported that Kabogo has rallied behind Ruto, and has also pressed President Uhuru Kenyatta to honour his alleged pre-election pledge of backing his deputy upon his retirement.
“We want to make it clear that as people from Mt Kenya, we are not political conmen. We promised in 2013 that we support President Kenyatta for 10 years and Ruto for another 10 years. Our agreement still stands,” Mkenya News claimed to have quoted Kabogo.
In a tweet on Friday, the flamboyant politician rubbished the reports and warned the blog against writing false stories about him.
"Fake! This will not help you..., fight your wars elsewhere without involving me. You want an interview come to me," Kabogo said.
The former county boss has been avoiding the 2022 debate, arguing this was not the right time to speak about who will succeed President Kenyatta.
In a past interview with Kameme FM, he revealed that he was contemplating running for the presidency, but said he will make the announcement at the appropriate time.
"I might be on the ballot in 2022 but as I have repeatedly said it is early to start talking about an election which is four years away. We have just come out of another poll, now is time to work," Kabogo said.
