Despite his elevation as chairman of powerful Development and Communication Cabinet Committee, Dr Fred Matiang'i is yet to transform even a police post near his Borabu home.
Police officers attached to Manga station are living in poor conditions with their houses of residence now falling apart.
A close look at the houses, one would imagine that they were abandoned several years ago, perhaps during the precolonial period.
The customer care desk is a small kiosk-like structure which cannot host any human being especially when it's raining.
Interestingly, most of the officers in the station are attached to the residence of their boss, Dr Matiang'i, who lives just over 500 meters from the place.
While there is a scheme to upgrade residences of police officers, the move may have stalled after the National Police Service started giving house allowances to the officers.
However, those who still live within police lines are required to remit some rent to the government. The situation at Manga is a replica of many police stations across Kenya.
During the Grand Coalition government, a police housing scheme was piloted in Nyamira, the same jurisdiction within which Manga falls under.
At that time, new houses were erected in Keroka, almost four kilometers from Manga and Nyamira Police Station.
Dr Matiang'i has often promised to improve the livelihoods of police officers across the country under radical reforms but the situation is yet to change.
