Former Nairobi woman representative aspirant Karen Nyamu is in trouble for allegedly 'smoking marijuana'.
She is set to appear before the culture committee of Nairobi county
This is after a picture of her smoking a substance went viral.
The incident happened earlier this month at the Koth Biro football tournament held in Nairobi
The photo, however, did not go down well with Nairobi County county assembly minority whip Peter Imwatok
“Section 3 (2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act lists cannabis as a banned substance. The duty to control drugs lies with the county with investment having been made accordingly for rehabilitation centres and awareness campaigns,” he said as quoted by a local news publication.
Mr Imwatok finds it ironical that as a leader, Karen found herself doing the unimaginable
“For instance during the Koth Biro Football Tournament, a member of the Nairobi City County Water and Sewerage Board was seen openly smoking cannabis and photos of the same were published by media outlets,” he added.
In what appears as a defiant move however, Karen took to her Twitter account to retweet a tweet defending her.
"Ati sijui @karennyamunbo alichapa blunt, kama mali ni safi ni safi. To me ako humble to the ground. Kwanza kutoa pesa, kujoin mafans to support our local football. #Kothbiro2019 #tukutanegrao"
This loosely translates to "I hear @karennyamunbo had a blunt, if something is worthy, then it is worthy, To me she is humble to the ground. She contributed money to support our local football"
The date she will be summoned is however not known.
Karen Nyamu vied for the Jubilee woman representative flagbearer unsuccessfully in 2017. She is currently a director at the Nairobi Water Company Board.
