For a long time, there has been a proliferation of illicit brews in Central Kenya despite heightened efforts by the local administration to crack down on the vice.
These illicit brews continue to render many youths into zombies while many men shun family responsibilities and they turn to the bottle.
It is just on Wednesday that 3000 liters of kangara brew was nabbed in a village located in the outskirts of Kiambu town
It, therefore, begs the question, why are illicit brews always wreaking havoc in Central Kenya? Why are they prevalent in these areas?
1. Greed and love for money
The only reason why any sane businessman will manufacture lethal brews and sell them knowingly to poor people can only be informed by greed and gargantuan appetite for illicit and quick wealth.
These businessmen are, however, not alone in this as they also work hand in hand with greedy law enforcers to streamline the channels of their businesses.
2. 'Loose' laws
Lack of stringent laws that regulate the manufacture and sale of alcohol has been the major setback in Central Kenya. And where the laws are clear and strong, they are ignored or selectively implemented.
3. Don't care attitude among the consumers of the illicit brews
Some consumers will continue taking these brews even when it is clear that they are harmful and deadly.
Nothing or nobody will make them keep off the brews. Some are even taken to rehabilitation centres but they relapse and end up at the bottle once again.
