Deputy President William Ruto has been warned against expecting to win the presidency in the 2022 polls using his current strategy.
According to political commentator Martin Andati, the DP appears to be more reliant on the masses for his presidency, which might not pay off.
He added that similarly, he should not hope to ride on the sympathy vote, due to his humiliation in the hands of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Getting sympathy is good but that cannot make him president. Ruto should ignore noises from the hoi polloi as it cannot make him president (Kupata sympathy ni nzuri lakini huwezi kuwa rais na sympathy. Ruto awachane na zile kelele za hoi polloi maana hazitamsaidia)," he said.
He made the remarks in an interview on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday morning.
Andati suggested that the DP will most likely come to terms with the real fight against him in March, when the party will be retreating for the party polls.
According to the commentator, since Ruto has already been shown that he is unwanted, he might be treated to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga treatment during Jomo Kenyatta's days.
"In the coming elections there could be formed regional deputy party leader slots, resulting in the formation of 8 such seats with Ruto just one of them. Then it will begin from there (Hata hii uchaguzi ya Jubilee wanaweza wakaweka regional, viwe viti vinane, Ruto awe mmoja wa wale deouty party leader wanane, mambo yaanzie hapo)," he added.
According to him, the DP will need to please the deep-state if he is to he president, as its them who decide who ascends to the top seat and not the voter.
