The proposed entry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to national politics is already shaping local politics at his own Nyamira backyard.

While the minister is yet to declare his interests, political realignments are taking shape, something that could as well affect his own matrix should he chose to join.

Already, Governor John Nyagarama, Senator Okong'o Mogeni and a host of local leaders have supported his bid. According to Governor Nyagarama, Matiang'i has come of age to join politics.

Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, who supported DP William Ruto until last month, also believes that Matiang'i can pull a surprise at national level.

"He has all it takes to lead. We are happy to have him as our own son. I have confidence that Dr Matiang'i is the right candidate for the seat," she said in a past event.

But another set of MPs led by North Mugirango's Joash Mose believes that Dr Matiang'i is not of age to join national politics, arguing that he should first concentrate on service delivery.

For many months now, Nyamoko has been leading parallel campaigns across Gusii, giving formidable opposition to Matiang'i's team.

"We shall support the DP. He has proved that he's equal to the task. Nobody is going to stop us from defending what we think is right," he said at Migori on Saturday.

But the silence of a number of ODM leaders could be the elephant in the room. Treasurer Timothy Bosire has been unease with Matiang'i's entry but he's yet to pull triggers.

The former Kitutu Masaba MP is aiming to succeed Governor John Nyagarama. However, the fact that Matiang'i is said to be supporting Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, the move could place him at loggerheads with Bosire.
