Itumbi was arrested by Flying Squad officers on Wednesday over claims that he's the one who authored a letter that linked four ministers to an alleged assassination plot of Deputy President William Ruto.

Maribe, who is facing murder charges, visited Itumbi at the station before taking photos. The two are seen smiling in the company of friends.

Throughout Maribe's incarceration over the death of Monica Kimani, Itumbi was one of few senior government officials who visited her in various holding cells and Lang'ata prison.

Early this week, Itumbi seemed to distance himself from the letter. He accused a local paper of linking DP Ruto's communication officers to the fake letter.

“Journalism is at its lowest form, when @dailynation pens a story and reproduces allegation after allegation - but does not bother to call or text any of the communication officers in the Presidency they claim are being sought by @DCI_Kenya and are in hiding. Objective verification,” he posted on Twitter.

According to Sunday Nation, the DCI had established that the letter which has caused confusion in the executive, was written by two communication officials from DP Ruto's office.

“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.

The letter has created divisions between DP Ruto and several senior government officials from Mt Kenya region.
