Grief engulfed Kivaani area in Kangundo, Machakos County on Friday morning after a teacher was brutally murdered.
The deceased, Cosmas Kiio the headteacher at Matithini Primary School, was attacked by unknown people in Kivaani village on Thursday night.
The incident was confirmed by Kangundo sub-county Police Commander Benjamin Ong'ombe who told the press that the teacher was heading home from the market when the incident happened.
"He was attacked by unknown people just 60 metres away from his home, he had just allighted from a motorbike and was walking towards his homehome," said Ong'ombe.
Ong'ombe added that his attackers hit him with wood-like weapons on the head and left him for the dead.
"He was bleeding profusely and by the time help came, he had already given up the ghost," he said.
The police boss stated that the motive of the attack is still a mystery but the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Ong'ombe urged residents with information that may help with investigations to report to the police.
The deceased's body was moved to Kangundo Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting an autopsy.
