Former Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner-General John Njiraini has announced his withdrawal from the contest to succeed Former National Land Commission (NLC) chairperson Muhamad Swazuri.

In a statement released to the media, Njiraini, who was considered among the favorites for the position, said he wants to pursue other interests hence he cannot take up the job. 

He said that he was glad to be among the candidates shortlisted for the post but he has other commitments at a personal level that was likely to hinder his performance at the commission

 “I wish to communicate my decision to withdraw as a candidate for the position of Chairperson of the National Land Commission in order to pursue other interests,” said read part of his letter

“I wish to thank you and other panel members for having granted me the opportunity to present my ideas on how this important national institution can be transformed through the injection of a fresh leadership dynamic.”

Njiraini was among the 11 candidates shortlisted for the interview of the post before he made an about-turn. Swazuri left the position in February after his term ended. 

The contest for the post now narrows down to the remaining 10 candidates.

 The potential successors of Swazuri now are; Tiyah Ali (Isiolo MP), Former Nyeri MP Esther Murugi, Naomi Wagereka (FIDA), Paul Wambua, Gershom Bw’Omanwa, Mwenda Makathimo, lawyer Gershom Otachi, Humphrey Njuguna, Robert Kilimo, and Patrick Adolowa.
