Early this week, Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong'o Mogeni backed Matiang'i for State House, arguing that he's best suited to take over.

"We have men of integrity from this region. It's not fair to have only certain communities leading us. Matiang'i has done exceptionally well and deserves to lead," Nyagarama said.

Dr Matiang'i is yet to declare any political interest. Initially, it was widely thought that he will be in the race to succeed Governor John Nyagarama.

And at Bomwagamo, Nyagarama led leaders among them Speaker Moffat Teya and several MCAs in drumming support for the CS.

"We are proud of the CS. He has done a wonderful job and deserves to occupy State House. Those opposing him from Gusii should stop," said Teya.

"Abagusii community has done well in the national stage. We should also as other communities to support the CS. He has come of age," added Majority Leader Duke Masira.

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro was castigated this week for discrediting Matiang'i's possible presidential prospects. Nyagarama asked Gusii leaders to stand with Matiang'i during the function.
