Kibra constituency candidates taking part in today's (Saturday) nominations for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party will accept the results, the party Director of Communications Philip Etale has said.
This is as the party seeks one of its 10 hopefuls who will fly its flag in the November by-election in hopes to succeed the late Ken Okoth, who was also a member of the party.
In a tweet on Friday, Etale said that this was decided by the candidates themselves, reaching an agreement that the remaining nine will rally behind the one who clinches the ticket.
"All the 10 aspirants for the ODM party ticket in Kibra are ready and upbeat about the nomination exercise scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, 7. The good thing is that they all agreed to adhere to the rules of nomination and support whoever wins," he said.
He further rubbished claims making rounds on social media that the party already has someone in mind, insisting that the responsibility lies in the hands of the voters.
According to Etale, no meeting has been held anywhere to pick the party's preferred candidate as is being claimed by some people.
"Forget the rumors doing rounds on social media about some meeting somewhere in Nairobi. The ODM party will hold its nomination tomorrow to elect the party candidate in the Kibra by-election. And as I said here, the candidate will win the by-election," he added.
The 10 candidates are Stephen OKello Oguwa, Christone Odhiambo Owino, Peter Ochieng Orero, Tony Ogola Sira Sine, Reuben William Ayako Ojijo and Obaricks Eric Ochieng Obayi.
Others are Brian Shem Owino, Benson Musungu, John Milla Otieno and Bernard Otieno Okoth.
The nominee will proceed to face off with among others, Jubilee Party's McDonald Mariga and Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo.
The nominations will be done in the absence of ODM boss Raila Odinga who left for Ethiopia on Thursday evening and is expected to be away for the whole weekend.
