Political analyst Martin Andati has said that the March 9, 2018 truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has thrown Deputy President William Ruto off balance.
Speaking on Monday, the commentator observed that the truce has brought Raila back into the picture at a time when he was appearing finished, which the DP never expected to happen and was therefore not prepared to deal with.
He said that Ruto is being subjected to a situation where he has to fight Raila from inside the government where Uhuru has placed him (Raila) ahead of their possible duel in the 2022 presidential elections, which Ruto never foresaw.
"In his strategy, Ruto was never prepared to deal with Raila as he never expected his truce with UhuruRuto (katika strategy yake hakuwa amepanga kudeal na Raila maana hakudhani wanaweza shikana na Uhuru)," he said.
The commentator made the remarks in an interview on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha Show on Monday morning.
His remarks come at a time when the DP has openly declared discomfort with Raila's apparent invasion into Jubilee, which has resulted in his closeness with Uhuru.
Ruto and his team have repeatedly branded Raila a party breaker who could be out to sow discord into the party, saying that he has repeatedly done it in other parties and ended up breaking them.
Raila has gone ahead to win the support of some Jubilee members, mostly from the Kieleweke faction.
