Police in Siaya County have launched punitive measures against two officers who engaged each other to a public fight on Saturday.
The two, a corporal and his senior shocked members of the public when they resorted to a fist fight in Ugunja, while clad in full police uniform.
Witnesses said that the junior officer accused his senior of insulting him and ambushed him while sitting under a tree before proceeding to rain kicks and blows on him.
One witness who was at the station in pursuit of services said that the junior officer had attempted to ignore the insults but gave in to his anger, beating his senior senselessly.
“The sergeant was sitting under a tree, when the corporal passed by and he started abusing him, calling him inept,” a witness told the Standard.
The incident was confirmed by county police boss Francis Kooli who said that a probe has been launched into the incident and disciplinary actions taken against the officers.
The fight was stopped by other senior officers, with Kooli now saying that whoever is found culpable will be dealt with as per the rules of the force.
“They quarrelled in public and the Sub-County police boss has instituted a disciplinary board to look into the matter. Action will be taken against anybody found culpable,” he said.
Civilians were sent out of the station after the incident.
