Speaking during the annual Tubong’u Lore fete in Turkana on Thursday, Nanok urged County Assemblies to educate the general public over the proposals in the referendum.

The county boss said most Kenyans are not aware of the changes proposed, adding that there is a need for them to be educated over the same before they can take part in the voting process.

“We must be sober on this issue. County Assemblies need to engage the public on the proposed review of the constitution because such a process informs our country’s future,” he said as quoted by Capital FM.

Nanok expressed doubts as to whether the country has the ability to finance a referendum, especially at a time when county governments are facing a financial crisis after the Senate and National Assembly failed to agree on the Division of Revenue.

He noted that leaders should not ignore the aspect of funds when deliberating on the referendum.

“I do not think there are funds to support the change of the Constitution. My line of thought is that we make maximum use of the current Constitution for the benefit of the country,” he added.
