Water shortage that has become a common phenomenon among Eldoret town residents might soon be a thing of the past.

This is after Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago revealed that his administration is working on various projects that will see water volumes to the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) increased.

They include ongoing construction of Kipkaren water dam near the Eldoret airport expected to provide at least 14,000 cubic litres of water daily and the Elegarini water dam which is scheduled to be complete by February.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Mandago, however, said they had agreed with Eldowas that no resident will be charged standing fees for dry taps in two consecutive months.

"Some people have been paying for water bills even when the taps are dry but from today that will not be happening as we've agreed with Eldowas that meter standing charges will be waived for anyone who goes without water for two months," Mandago said.

The governor further reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling is a preelection pledge of ensuring each household across the county has access to clean water.

"We are working on cleaning about 300 dams to be able to provide water to the locals at a low cost and I am optimistic that before the end of my term at least 75 percent of Uasin Gishu households will be having access to piped water," he said.
