Speaking at the Eldoret NCPB depot on Monday, Kiunjuri said the 62 are under investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over irregular supply of maize to the cereals board.

It is believed the 62 are traders who masqueraded as farmers and supplied imported maize to the board at the expense of genuine farmers.

The government recently released Sh 2.1 billion to pay farmers who had delivered their produce to NCPB in the last one year.

“We had 226 farmers who were under investigation by EACC and DCI, most of them have been cleared and only 62 are remaining,” Kinjuri told the press.

He noted that the rest of the farmers who have been cleared will get their payments.

“Before we open the NCPB stores everybody will have been paid. We have the money to pay farmers,” affirmed the CS.
