Renowned law scholar and socio-political commentator Prof Makau Mutua, has weighed in on the exclusive interview that Deputy President Dr William Ruto gave to NTV on Thursday night.
In a barbed tweet on Friday, Mutua held the view that the interview exposed the country's second in command, as dishonest and evasive when asked questions.
He expressed disappointment that the deputy president did not provide a clear answer, when put to task about his net worth.
On the basis of that interview, and the quality of the answers the DP gave, Mutua contended that the deputy president was not fit to run for the top office.
"Last night Ken Mijungu exposed William Ruto as a fraud on @ntvkenya. Couldn’t even answer simple questions. Why not tell Kenyans his net worth? He was defensive, equivocal, and squirming. Very disappointing. Came across as dishonest. Conclusion — not ready, or fit, for PORK, " the renowned academic said in his Friday tweet.
Mutua's intervention is consistent with the view of a section of Kenyans, who were concerned by DP Ruto's evasive answers, especially on the question of his net worth.
Ruto is expected to run for the presidency in 2022, after President Uhuru Kenyatta's term winds down.
