A woman has been arrested for allegedly peddling bhang in Syokimau estate, Machakos County. The impounded bhang is estimated to be worth Sh150,000.
"A 61-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of bhang peddling in Syokimau estate, Machakos county. Mary Achieng was found ferrying 178 rolls of bhang (in a suitcase) with an estimated value of 150,000 shillings," read the tweet.
This comes as more influential Kenyans join the push for legalization of medicinal bhang. This campaign was supported by the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth and received massive support from Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
In a tweet on Friday, activist Boniface Mwangi urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to legalize medicinal marijuana
"It’s only poor people who get jailed for smoking Marijuana...Uhuru should legalize medicinal marijuana. Khat (Miraa) is harmful but still legal" Boniface Mwangi tweeted.
However, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has maintained that legalization will not be possible under his watch. He is opposed to any kind of legalization including production for medicinal use.
"We have an application on my desk right now by some lunatic who's saying they need a license to build a factory in Kenya that processes cannabis for pharmaceutical use," the CS said during a function at Pangani Girls in Nairobi.
