Political analyst Dennis Anyonka now says that Deputy President William Ruto should not celebrate of a win in the Mt Kenya region yet, as the 2022 general elections draw nearer.
The DP has been on a charm offensive to win over the region lately, which has resulted in him winning over a good number of area leaders, who have been repeatedly endorsing his bid.
And though the group under the tag Tangatanga has been heaping praises and declaring support for his candidature, Anyonka says that the Deputy President cannot brag of a win yet.
He on Monday said that the region has been voting as a block, and since its currently divided into two, there are chances that it might reunite to chart a way forward ahead of the polls.
"It's still early. Central Kenya has been voting as a block, it will be the first time to get a vote out of the region or to divide it (Central Kenya wamekuwa wakipiga kura kama block, itakuwa mara ya kwanza kutoka na kura chache pale ama kuwagawanya)," he said.
The commentator made the remarks on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday morning.
He also observed that the fact that the DP is enjoying backing from the group politicians cannot be translated to mean that the situation is the same on the ground.
Mr Anyonka opined that chances of being bought over or being deployed to fool the masses cannot also be ruled out.
"He is moneyed, it is likely that some are after him aware that he will sort them (Ako na pesa na huenda wengine wanajua wakimfuata atawashika mikono vizuri)," he added.
But at the end of the day, he added, the DP has succeeded in making a wave, which is one of the things needed to convince that masses that you are the best bet.
The DP's penetration into the region has been facing opposition from the rival Kieleweke grouping, which is pro-President Uhuru Kenyatta, the region's political kingpin.
