The meeting was held behind closed doors, with the media being blocked, as President Uhuru Kenyatta played the host to the deliberations at the Sagana State Lodge.

Speaking on Wednesday, Kagwe who was the master of ceremony at the function defended the move, saying that the plan was to make attendees feel free to express themselves.

"Sagana was a very happy place. It was the President's meeting. The reason why media was not there was to give space to the people to freely express themselves," he said.

The former lawmaker made the remarks in an interview with KTN's Tony Gachoka on Pointblank, Wednesday night.

He also defended Uhuru who has been under attack for retreating into his tribe despite being elected as the entire nation's leader.

He noted that the head of state took the direction in a bid to ensure that the nation remains united, and chose to begin tackling that from his own doorstep.

"The driving force behind the President's difficult decision was that Kenya must be more important than any individual in the country. Kenyans must remain united," he added.

However, the involvement of the likes of Kagwe has been questioned by some area politicians who have accused the event planners of ignoring current leaders for former ones.

They include Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri who has claimed that the move was aimed at humiliating some of the incumbents.
