Prospects of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i running for president continues to be real as Nyamira leaders intensify home support.
Already, Governor John Nyagarama, Senator Okong'o Mogeni and over 25 MCAs from Nyamira have already backed Dr Matiang'i's presidential bid.
A fortnight ago, the leaders met at Borabu MP Ben Momanyi's home where they unanimously agreed front Dr Matiang'i as the de facto leader of Abagusii.
While addressing various gatherings in Kitutu Masaba and West Mugirango on Tuesday, Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi said she's confident that Dr Matiang'i will be president.
"We are grateful to have him as our super minister. The few days he has been coordinating government projects, we have seen tremendous changes across Gusii.
"With the unity that we have supported as leaders, I am sure he will be president of this country. As a community, we have numbers that can help us negotiate with others for the top seat," she said.
As a strategy to minimise rebellion among leaders to his advantage, Dr Matiang'i met several MPs at his Harambee House offices in Nairobi last week.
Those opposing him include Sylvanus Osoro, Shadrack Mose, Vincent Kemosi, Joash Nyamoko, Ezekiel Mochogu, Dr Joash Maangi among others.
Both Ruto and Matiang'i have visited the two counties in the last two months, further dividing their supporters with both camps confident of victory.
