Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed that the attackers killed three passengers injuring three others in the process.

“I can confirm that three people have died after suspected militants fired at the bus they were in. Three other people are seriously injured. We shall provide more information once investigations are done,” said Macharia as quoted by the Star.

The Mombasa Raha bus was headed to Lamu from Mombasa and was ambushed near Nyongoro area in Witu town within Lamu County.

At the time of the ambush, at least 44 passengers were on board. The driver of the bus defied the order to stand before the militants fired.
