The Mt Kenya region will need Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to make it to the next government, political analyst Herman Manyora has said.
Currently, Mt Kenya appears not in the 2022 presidential race, with Manyora arguing that if the region is to be at the helm of the government again, after 2022, it has to be through Raila.
He says that to achieve that, it must begin with embracing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and backing constitutional amendments, if they propose the expansion of the executive.
"Only the BBI can produce a situation in which they remain in power and the only way Mt Kenya will remain in power is if they work with Raila in a pact," he said in his analysis channel, Saturday.
"The pact should perhaps give them the Prime Minister while Raila takes the president but that is not going to be possible if you are dealing with William Samoei Ruto," he added.
With Uhuru approaching his retirement and no other strong leader from the region showing interest in the top seat, Mt Kenya is likely to be out of the executive for the next few years.
This would be the second time the region finds itself in the cold since independence, after being out for 24 years during former president Daniel Moi's tenure between 1978 and 2003.
Already, Uhuru is under pressure from some Mt Kenya politicians to drop Ruto and embrace Raila ahead of the 2022 polls.
