And while he has been giving out an image of a humble leader and a man able to offer direction for the nation, people who work with him are saying something completely different.

They have termed him a proud and ignorant man who cannot take criticism or corrections, adding that he thrives on demeaning people on grounds that he is educated while they are not.

They claim that he is paternalistic and a man you cannot debate with, as he bulldozes his way through disagreements.

“When you get into a disagreement, he uses big words and tries pushing the fact that he is educated to demean you,” one of the people who worked with him in his 2017 presidential bid told the Standard on Saturday.

In his defence, Aukot who chaired the team that formed the current constitution, the one he now wants amended, says that he is taken as arrogant as he speaks the truth.

His bill seeks to among others, reduce elective representation by slashing parliamentary seats from the current over 400 to slightly over 140, in what he says will reduce the wage bill.

He also seeks to introduce a one term presidential system that will see the president serve for a non-renewable seven year term.

In the August 2017 polls, he appeared a distant third after President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier  Raila Odinga, before appearing second in the October 26 rerun boycotted by Raila.
