"We can confirm an agreement has been reached with @redbullsalzburg for the transfer of Takumi Minamino," Liverpool tweeted.

The 24-year-old Japan international told Liverpool’s website that it was his dream to play for The Reds.

“It has been a dream, my dream to become a Liverpool player. And I’m so excited that the moment has come true.

“To play in the Premier League was one of my targets. I think this is the top-class league in the world; I was thinking if my career as a footballer progressed smoothly, someday I would be able to play in the Premier League

.“But I never thought I would be able to play in this team and I’m really happy about it. I’m looking forward to it.” said the play maker.

He was signed for just £7.25m, which is close to one billion, precisely  Ksh957,764,258.75 when converted.

Minamino will officially start playing for Liverpool in January.

Sources say he is expected to make his first start for the club during the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA) against Liverpool's arch rival Everton F.C

Minamino impressed Liverpool's coaching team when they faced his former club Red Bull Salzburg in the just concluded group stage Champions League.

He managed to have his name on the score sheet with a super strike at Liverpool's home ground, Anfield.

He will be joining the likes of Divock Oringi, a Belgium with Kenyan roots.
