Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah has alleged that his Dagoreti North counterpart Simba Arati led goons who prevented people in Woodley ward, Kibra from voting during the by-election.
On a interview on Citizen TV's Day Break, Ichung'wah revealed that in the morning of the voting day, people never turned up to exercise their democratic right at Woodley ward where he was the Jubilee party chief agent.
The vocal MP further asserted that however, the security officers came to restore the situation back to normal and the locals were allowed to go and vote.
"Almost the entire morning people were not able to vote until the security forces came in and tried to arrest the situation," alleged Ichung'wah.
Furthermore, the MP who is also a close ally of the deputy president William Ruto noted that the goons had threatened voters not to come out of their residential areas to vote.
He claimed that his Dagoreti North colleague Simba Arati led the group of youth-turned-goons to instill fear in some voters believed to be supporting ODM candidate Benard Imran Okoth's competitors.
"The goons were commandeered by Simba Arati," said the Kikuyu lawmaker.
Simba Arati addressing residents during a rally after the by-elections, however, disputed claims that he commandeered goons to beat up Kimili MP Didmus Baraza.
Rather, he said he is the one who stopped the goons from attacking him and would he have not stepped in the situation could have been worse.
