The Court of Appeal in Mombasa upheld Mohammed Ali's August 8, 2017 election on Thursday, after former Nyali parliamentary aspirant ODM's Said Abdallah Saedo who is Governor Ali Hassan Joho's cousin, filed a petition challenging his win.

Justice Martha Koome, while issuing the ruling, said Saedo's petition lacked merit.

According to the judge, the petitioner did not provide sufficient evidence to support voter bribery claims, alleged intimidation and alleged use of security officers to influence the election outcome.

"The appellant having failed to prove allegations of electoral malpractices, the court finds that the appeal is lacking merit and dismiss it forthwith," said Justice Koome.

Ali hailed the court, saying the will of the people will always prevail.

During the thanksgiving lunch ceremony on Friday, the former investigative journalist promised his people to deliver the campaign pledges he made.

He also launched the Nyali NG-CDF van that will facilitate grassroot movements of CDF committee to monitor projects and also attending public participation barazas to establish key priority areas in terms of development for each area.
