This is after a major flaw in the app that could jeopardise the security of users was discovered.

"WhatsApp encourages people to upgrade to the latest version of our app, as well as keep their mobile operating system up to date, to protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile device, " WhatsApp said in a statement.

The flaw allows a spyware created by an Israeli firm to break into your digital communication. All that needs to happen for your device to be compromised is getting a missed call.

Those deploying the malicious software, can then read your messages and listen in on your calls without your knowledge.

WhatsApp has been working round the clock to patch up the dangerous flaw, and came up with the update on Monday.

Many Kenyans especially the millennials are moving away from SMS to Whatsapp as a means of sending messages.

The sophisticated spyware completely violates your phone's operating system leading to the complete control of the cameras and microphones.
