Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot has insisted that former Harambee Stars forward McDonald Mariga is qualified to run in the Kibra Constituency parliamentary race.
In a blistering tweet in which he hit out at an identified female lawyer, the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator rejected the idea that Mariga needed a voters card to run.
He added that digital database of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would be updated to capture Mariga's details.
"Somebody tell that slay queen lawyer and former Kanu racketeer that we no longer have anything called a voters card. Mariga is a registered voter. KIEMS will be updated to capture his details and he will be cleared to run," Cheruiyot's tweet read.
The tweet comes hardly a day after an IEBC returning officer disqualified the renowned footballer from the parliamentary race, saying his name was missing from the register.
In a press conference after the disqualification setback, Mr Mariga maintained that he was a registered voter as he expressed shock at missing his name in the IEBC register.
He was pulled away before he could respond to a question about when he registered as a voter.
Jubilee has expressed its intentions to appeal the invalidation of Mariga's candidature at the IEBC tribunal designed to arbitrate issues of that nature.
