Reading from a mobile phone on which her name was written so as to get it right, Lawyer Ojienda revealed that somebody had written 'Mama Yao' to refer to the governor's wife.

The mentioning of the name 'Mama Yao' which loosely translates to their mother triggered laughter in the courtroom, the hilarity of the name not lost on those who attended the session.

"Mrs Susan Wangari Ndung'u, someone has written 'Mama Yao' does not possess a passport, she does not have a travel document," Tom Ojienda said.

Tom Ojienda made the submissions in a bid to secure release on bail for Governor Waititu and his wife after being arrested over a raft of corruption charges.

He said that Susan Ndung'u could not run out of the country as she lost her travel documents which she has not yet replaced.

The renowned lawyer described the governor's wife as localised.

Waititu and his wife surrendered to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Hajji issued an order for the arrest of the two.

According to the EACC, Waititu was allegedly involved in the irregular award of county government tenders.
