Manchester United head coach Olegunnar Solksjaer has ruled out chances of former Red Devils finisher Zlatan Ibrahimovich rejoining the team from United States' LA Galaxy.

This comes shortly after the Swedish striker expressed his interest in returning to Old Trafford when his contract expires later in November.

But Solksjaer on Friday poured cold water on the same, basing his decision on Ibrahimovic's age, considering that the skilled striker is bow in his late 30s.

“I don’t think that will happen. If he was 28 not 38 in October, that’s a big difference," he said, adding that the player has had a great time at United, but a return is no longer possible.

“He had a great time with the club and he’s had a fantastic career, but I would not expect that. Zlatan had a great time here, he’s still doing well and it was unfortunate he got his injury here," he added.

This comes only a day after confirmation that United will loan center back Chris Smalling to Italian giants AS Roma, with Norwegian Matteo Damian also likely to follow him there.

He based his decision to release Smalling on the overcrowded number of defenders in the team.

“We sat down and discussed it and at the moment we have six centre-backs and I couldn’t promise Chris regular football," he added.
