Mombasa County Inspectorate Beach Patrol Unit on Thursday saved a young man who was drowning in the Indian Ocean.
According to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, the incident happened at Bahari Club Beach front in Mkomani Ward, Nyali Constituency, Mombasa County.
In a long Facebook post on Saturday, Joho said the Inspectorate Beach Patrol Unit, which is made up of officers from County Inspectorate and the County Fire Brigade Departments, had to act swiftly to save the young man who was in a group of fellow men swimming.
The county boss has since urged Kenyans to be "vigilant and exercise caution" during this long holiday.
"Led by Chief instructor Salim Mohammed, the unit swung into action and managed to rescue the young man who was then transferred to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for further attention. I extend my profound gratitude to the Mombasa County Inspectorate Beach Patrol Unit and also urge members of the public to be vigilant and exercise caution as they go about their businesses while enjoying the festive season," Joho posted.
In the video he shared, the inspectorate Beach Patrol Unit was being briefed on safety tips while in water before they were informed about the drowning incident.
Fortunately, they took less than five minutes to bring back the drowning young man to safety.
After giving him first aid, the young man was transferred to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital for further attention.
Mombasa is now receiving a number of tourists, both local and international ones, as the December festive season gets closer.
For that matter, most beaches are recording a high number of people, making it necessary for everyone to remain vigilant.
