A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidate drowned in Lake Victoria on Monday.
The student, who was later identified as Tyson Sunga, hails from Nyatike, Migori County.
The family of the deceased has been left in deep shock after the sad news broke out. Sunga, who was schooling at St. Paul's Odendo Secondary, died while he was washing his clothes at Sori Beach.
Nyatike Sub-County Police Commander Stella Too confirmed the incident, saying the police have embarked on a probe into the matter. The deceased reportedly left his home on Sunday afternoon.
He never returned home only for a fisherman to find his body in the lake. According to the family, the deceased student was epileptic and he died under unclear circumstances.
“He had gone to the lake for laundry. Unfortunately, he drowned in the process. Reports from the family indicate that the boy was epileptic and could have suffered a severe attack although the matter is under investigations,” she said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The body of the deceased has since been transferred to the Sori Lakeside mortuary for post-mortem examination as a probe into the death continues. He was set to sit for the examinations that kicked off on Monday. Residents and leaders of the area have expressed their shock following the incident.
