The girl, who is a pupil at Mwala DEB Primary School gave birth to a premature baby who has since been put in an incubator.

Mwala Sub-County Director of Education Daniel Simiyu confirmed that the girl and the baby are doing fine.

"Yes, the two are at the Machakos Level Five Hospital and are doing good. The girl will be doing her exams from the hospital," said Simiyu during a phone interview.

5,486 candidates will be sitting the KCPE exams in Mwala Sub-County. 2,733 candidates are girls, which is slightly lower than the number of their male counterparts which stands at 2,753.

Machakos County Director of Education Shamsa Mohammed on Tuesday warned teachers, students and parents against engaging in exam malpractices.

She stated that stern disciplinary action will be taken against those found flouting the examination regulations set by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).

She observed that the government is committed to curbing cheating in exams.

"Cheating will not be tolerated as we expect the integrity of those involved in exams to be beyond reproach," she said.
