There was drama in Ngata, Nakuru county on Saturday, after members of two churches clashed over a piece of land claimed by both houses of worship.
St Getrudes Catholic Church is accusing the One Accord Christian Center of encroaching into its one-acre piece of land, and putting up a church establishment.
Consequently, members of the Catholic church on Saturday cordoned off the disputed piece of land and deployed casual labourers to pull down the church.
Reports reached members of the rival church, who on getting to the scene found the entrance blocked by the Catholic believers, forcing them to access it by going over the perimeter wall.
They then forced the labourers to stop the demolition, with one of the pastors of the affected church criticizing the action, saying that no court order was issued.
The preacher, Mark Kiroso, said that though area Assistant Chief Charles Koech oversaw the demolition, he failed to produce the order, despite claiming that there was one.
“It is wrong for the church to demolish our altar without a notice. We cannot allow this," said the priest, but the administrator said that the presence of police was proof.
He said that the church was illegally built, adding that area OCS was around to help impalement the said court order.
“The area OCS is here. The church should be demolished because it was built illegally,” said the administrator.
