One of Raila Odinga's closest aide has fully supported President Uhuru Kenyatta's latest onslaught against MPs practising law.
During Jamhuri Day celebrations on Thursday, Uhuru warned MPs representing governors linked to corruption in court.
The head of state asked Attorney General Kihara Kariuki to draft a bill that will bar state officers from engaging in conflict of interest related cases.
"State and public officers are not about the law. One cannot serve as a legislator at the national or county level while at the same time practicing law whether or not for gain."
Dennis Onyango, Raila's Spokesman, on Thursday said the concern raised by the president is well covered in the Building Bridges Initiative report.
"As BBI recommends, people must decide whether they want to serve their private professional and business or be in public service. It can’t be both," he said.
"How do you defend an individual in court today and mediate in his or her case in Parliament the next day?"
Uhuru's statement comes just a day after Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Mutula Kilonzo Jr helped Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to secure bail.
The remarks could raise yet another protracted battle between Executive and different professionals who are also in public service.
