Speaking in Laikipia on Friday as he donated tree seedlings to locals, the CS doubled down on his stance that a constitutional referendum should be triggered to benefit individuals.

He said that any constitutional process should have the interests of the Kenyan people at heart.

"There should be no people who want their selfish interests served. If the constitution is to be changed, it should be not because of a particular tribe. If the constitution is to be changed, it should not be because of a particular person (Na kusiwe watu ambaye wanataka kujiangalia wenyewe pekee yake. At kama ni katiba inageuzwa, inageuzwa kwa sababu ya kabila fulani. Ati katiba ibadilishwe kwa sababu ya fulani), " the Agriculture and Irrigation cabinet secretary said. (6:02-6:14)

CS Mwangi Kiunjuri's interventions on the BBI issue have not sat well with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politicians who have interpreted the CS's pronouncements on the initiative as opposition to it.

Last week, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed unloaded on the CS, calling on him focus on dispensing his duties as cabinet secretary and steer away from the BBI debate.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga are expected to receive the BBI report in the coming days.
